(EDITOR’S NOTE — Niagara Falls pop-punk band Call Me Disaster is the embodiment of punk’s DIY spirit. Together since 2024, the band has organized its own festival called ‘Broken World,’ for suicide prevention. When one of its favorite bands came to town, the group took it upon itself to pull out every stop to successfully work its way onto the bill, despite not even having released any music at that point. And when it came time to release its first record, they took the unorthodox step of dropping a live EP as its debut, an impressive, if not bold, move that paid off in a spirited four-song offering titled ‘Spoiled: Live at Rec Room.’ Today, Call Me Disaster is out with a new single, ‘Funeral for My Better Half,’ and an accompanying video for the track. Comprised of Liv DeGregorio on vocals; guitarists Matt Riley and Brandon Mariotti; bassist Thomas Shields and Ryan Thomas on drums, the band was nice enough to talk recently with 1120 Press about all that’s happening. Listen to the group’s new single HERE and be sure to watch Call Me Disaster’s new video at the bottom of this page.)
1120 PRESS: Thank you so much for taking time to speak with us. Congratulations on the new single and video dropping today and congrats as well on the release of the recent EP! How’s the band feeling now that you have music out there in the wild for the public to hear?
CALL ME DISASTER: We're all super excited to have music out for people to listen to when they're not at our shows! There are two originals and two covers on the live EP, so this gives people a good feel for what we're like. This is just the start: We have plans for a solid number of releases this year.
1120: The choice to drop a live EP as a first release is an interesting one. Can you talk about the thinking that went into that decision? And is there a meaning behind the title, 'Spoiled'?
CMD: We wanted to have something on streaming platforms ahead of our single release (today) for our song, ‘Funeral for My Better Half,’ and this live show felt like the right thing to share.
We've been covering Hot Milk since our first time in a room together as a band. We've been big fans of their music before Call Me Disaster was even started. When we saw Hot Milk was coming to Rec Room, we did everything possible to get added as an opener to that show. We asked our friends and followers to share social media posts, reached out to the booking agents, and more. We wanted this show. As you know from the live EP, we got it.
We felt pretty spoiled opening for one of our favorite bands without any material released. Hence the name "Spoiled." It also seems fitting because we milked our excitement over this Hot Milk show for a while. Milk spoils: that's a little more cheesy of an answer though.

1120: What can you tell us about the new single and is this song a prelude to a forthcoming EP or LP in the near future?
CMD: The song, ‘Funeral for My Better Half,’ is the first song we wrote for the band. Matt had the song idea on one of those days when he felt like giving up; killing off the good parts of himself and committing to being fully bad — thus the title.
It's not a song suggesting people do that. Quite the opposite. We want people to know that everyone at some point feels like a failure and that's okay. Matt gave the lyric idea to Liv, and she masterfully made the idea so much better. Ryan laid down great drums and helped to craft little pieces of the song to help the structure. Brandon came in after it was written and added a killer solo at the end. Tom redid the bass parts and made them much more complementary to what we were going for.
This song will eventually be a part of an album, but right now we're in a season of singles.
1120: You guys have been out there now since the summer of 2024. What are your impressions of the Buffalo scene and have there been any challenges for the band — as it pertains to breaking into Buffalo's scene — being from Niagara Falls?
CMD: Many of us have been a part of the Buffalo scene for a while, and we love it. Buffalo is a tight-knit community, and locals help each other out. We ran a music festival last year called ‘Broken World’ for suicide prevention, and we had so many incredible musicians not only come out to play but also support the cause.
1120: Is there anything on the band’s agenda for 2026 that you guys are especially excited about and want people to know?
CMD: ‘Funeral…’ is the next release, and 2026 will have a few songs from us — music videos and content to go along with all of them. We're looking forward to a great 2026.
