The young and too short-lived Buffalo punk band Standard Living — which has decided to go on “indefinite hiatus” as its members attend college across the country and Canada —always seemed to write beyond its years.
Though its members were born this century, their music exuded the raw urgency of the 1980’s LA and DC punk scenes, not only in sound, but in spirit too.
But what was equally interesting about Standard Living was that the band was impossible to pigeonhole. Just when you thought you had the trio pegged as the second-coming of Fugazi, it would shift gears to indie, jazz or ska.
Yet, while Standard Living has now been paused, the band on April 1 dropped what it’s
characterized as its “farewell” EP, titled ‘Peace and Love.’ A follow-up to last year’s fantastic self-titled debut LP, the new record is an excellent three-song release on which the band once again happily embraces its genre-hopping proclivity.

“We are super proud and excited for this release,” said the band’s Aiden Jasper, who along with Carson Davies and Ian Saccomando made up Standard Living,.
The band worked on ‘Peace and Love’ at Black Rock EPS Studio in Buffalo with Prairie Pavement’s Owen Shotwell, who co-produced, recorded and mixed the EP. Featuring cover art by Olivia Pratt, the new release was mastered by Nathan Weise from Sycamore Sounds.
“They’re amazing songwriters with great hooks,” Shotwell said of Standard Living. “They have quite a lot of range in the world of guitar music.”
That range and talent is on full display throughout ‘Peace and Love,’ which can be listened to HERE.
And though Standard Living’s future hangs in limbo, its members plan to continue making music. Jasper is pursuing a solo project, and Saccomando is in a band called 7 Days Away.
Meanwhile, Davies’ solo project, Bulldog Front, recently dropped a new album called Collection II, a stellar eight-song album in its own right now available on the steams and which can be heard HERE. Check it out!
