SOUNDBITES: A Round-Up of Music News from the Buffalo Scene

(EDITOR’S NOTE — There was a flurry of new music released across the Buffalo scene over the Valentines Day weekend. Here’s a quick roundup of just some of the songs that dropped to help you start your week off right.)

The Mookies have released a very cool new single and it’s called ‘Bad News,’ which you can listen to HERE. Punctuated by a bouncy rhythm and vivid wordplay of a calamitous existence, we’ve spent the weekend vibing on this extremely catchy tune. ‘Bad News,’ is the second single dropped by the band this year, and follows last month’s ‘Lonely Lion.’ The good news about ‘Bad News’ is that this new song by The Mookies gives reassurance that Buffalo’s indie scene is in some good hands moving forward.

Buffalo screamo upstarts Sostre! are out with a ferocious new single. The song, titled ‘Slip Agent,’ exudes pure savage intensity and marks the first release off the band’s forthcoming EP, ‘There is a Sickness Here,’ which was recorded, mixed and mastered by renowned Buffalo engineer Jay Zubricky of GCR Audio. Sostre!’s new EP hits on March 20. You can listen to ‘Slip Agent’ HERE.

akloh. has dropped a new single titled ‘Love of the Game.’ The highly personal song marks a bit of a change in direction — (and a successful one at that) — for the indefatigable Buffalo artist. Whereas as last year’s ‘Anthology’ release by akloh. brimmed with full-throttle bangers, ‘Love of the Game,’ is a sweet little tune highlighted by tender and mellifluous vocals and a very cool guitar sound. Listen to ‘Love of the Game’ HERE.

The always interesting and ever-prolific Wylie Something has released a new song. Called ‘No Way No How,’ the tune actually has been dropped under the name ‘Wylie Krap,’ designating Wylie’s collaboration with ‘Krapbasket’ — aka fellow Buffalo musician Kameron Plotner.  Wylie Something is the ongoing musical project of cosmically cool Buffalo artist Jacob Smolinski, who regularly pushes boundaries through relentless sonic experimentation (… as does Plotner, btw). ‘No Way No How’ is a total banger and you can listen to the new song HERE.

Goat Farm, the stoner/doom metal band from Rochester, has dropped its latest single, titled ‘Unlivable Future/No More Pigs.’ We can never get enough stoner/doom here, and we spent the last few days knee-deep in this tune, which floats upon an intriguing contrast of ethereal vocals and a crushing onslaught of sound. It’s nasty in the absolute very best way. Check out Goat Farm’s ‘Unlivable Future/No More Pigs’ HERE.
