(EDITOR’S NOTES — 1120 Press ‘Soundbites’ is a periodic roundup of music happenings from the Buffalo scene. Thanks for your continued support.)

Buffalo punk band Skyway will be releasing its new EP, ‘Time to Be Alive,’ this coming Friday, June 6. The release will include five new tracks which were recorded with Jay Zubricky at GCR Audio back in January. Skyway also will be following up the digital release of the new EP with a full-length vinyl that will include ‘Time to Be Alive’ on one side and the trio’s 2024 EP, ‘Never Disappear,’ on the other.
Adam Putzer — the former lead guitarist for the Buffalo indie band The Tins, who now performs solo under the name ‘asalone’ — will drop his latest single on Friday, June 6. Titled, ‘Ghost, Almost,’ the song will be released on asalone’s Bandcamp page HERE. This Friday marks Bandcamp Friday, meaning artists on the platform get to keep nearly 100 percent of the proceeds from any sale. So, buy ‘Ghost, Almost’ from asalone and purchase songs from other artists too while your there.
Metallic-hardcore band Juggernaut has a new 7-inch coming out soon which will include a cover of Warzone’s ‘Brotherhood and Sisterhood’ and a new original song, ‘Peace Through Annihilation.’ The limited run will feature different and distinct cover art for releases in the United States and Japan, respectively. Juggernaut will be on tour in Japan in July. Stay tuned for the official release of this record.
Buffalo indie band Karma Queen has a new EP coming out. The record, titled ‘Sharp Tongue,’ is set to drop on Friday June 13. In advance of the new EP the band released on May 30 its excellent new single, ‘Final Girl.’ Check it out HERE. Karma Queen will be marking the new EP with a release show at Nietzsche’s on June 14 with Taka and Orange Zest. Doors at 8 p.m.
The uber-talented indie sibling duo ‘Spiria’ has announced on their socials that they’ll soon be out with a new single this month. The forthcoming song comes on the heels of the band’s late April release, ‘Pictures in My Head.’ That single was accompanied by a superb video directed by the wildly creative Bran Schlia, founder of Steak and Cake Records and the force behind a slew of very cool musical and cinematic works. Check out the official video for ‘Pictures in My Head’ HERE.
Meanwhile, we’re a little behind on these next few mentions but they’re most definitely worth your immediate attention.
Cobraz — the unique, genre-mashing band that fuses together everything from metal and grunge to punk and indie with splashes of doom and progressive elements — has dropped a new single. Titled ‘Disfigured,’ you can check the song out HERE. Watch 1120 Press for more on this band in the near future. Meanwhile, you can follow Cobraz HERE and HERE
Good news for all you hardcore ‘cat people!’ Buffalo hardcore band Gatto Black, fronted by the always frantically intense Sal Mastrocola, has dropped an intense new single titled ‘You Can’t Make Me Dance.’ The song examines Mastrocola’s formative years growing up queer in the Catholic Church, for which he was made to feel guilty — (oh the hypocrisy.) Fast, melodic, and as we said, intense, check out the song HERE. Follow Gatto Black’s music HERE.
And speaking of bangers, give a spin to Pretty Good State University’s new song, ‘Donnie Got Away with It.’ The single, classic political punk protest, dropped May 23 and is available on all streaming platforms.
