First-wave Buffalo hardcore-punk band GOA will soon be releasing a live album. Titled ‘Live from Mohawk Place,’ the record captures the band’s Jan. 10, 2024, sold-out ‘More! More! More!’ record-release show performance at the legendary Buffalo music venue. The upcoming album will be issued by Classic Core Records. Keep your eyes peeled to the GOAand Classic Core socials for updates.

Lancaster grunge band Blissen will drop its debut LP, ‘Seeds in Tar,’ on Oct. 9 on streaming platforms and as a physical vinyl release. The seven-song album, which will be issued by the independent Oakland, Calif. label Pure Severe Records, follows the band’s successive drops in June, July and August of their singles Mad Tree, Seeds in Tar and Estranged. Blissen will also celebrate the release of its new LP with a record-release show on October 9 at Hi-Fi Hits in Williamsville. Learn everything there is to know about Blissen and pre-order the band’s LP HERE at the Pure Severe Records site. You can also read more about Blissen HERE.

Western New York indie band The Rainlamps will be releasing its latest album, ‘Down in the Bush Leagues,’ on Oct. 16. The new LP, which marks the band’s sophomore release, comes on the heels of the album’s singles ‘You Wrote My Favorite Song,’ ‘Nick of Time,’ and ‘Lucky Breaks.’ Be sure to follow The Rainlamps on their Bandcamp page for music, merch and more. A very cool companion zine, dubbed ‘The Bush League Zine,’ for the band’s new album is now available for purchase on Bandcamp, and includes lyrics, photos and a centerfold collage. Keep your eyes on the band’s Instagram page HERE too for news of The Rainlamps forthcoming music video for the song ‘True Superheroes,’ which drop on Oct. 20. We’ve had the privilege of catching a sneak peak of this very cool work, which according to the band follows the saga of “a socially maladjusted mime who ventures into New York City in an attempt to make new friends, eventually landing at Union Pool in Brooklyn for a show by The Hard Quartet.”

Passion Tax – the uber-cool Buffalo dual-bass duo — will be dropping its first-ever full-length album on Oct. 31. The band will celebrate the occasion with a record release show on Halloween night at Revolver Records on Elmwood and physical copies will be available at the show. While you await the new Passion Tax LP, you can check out the band’s catalogue and follow them HERE.

The virtually impossible-to-keep-up-with John Toohill of Science Man, Swimming Faith Records and a laundry list of other projects, is at it once again with the forthcoming Science Man release ‘The Exchange of Ideas and Information: Part 1.’ You can check out the single ‘Top of the Chain,’ and pre-order the album and grab associated merch, HERE. The new LP follows last year’s Monarch Joy album. Says Swimming Faith of the new record: “SCIENCE MAN has returned from the brink with their darkest, most intense record yet. The Exchange of Ideas and Information is a relentless and obsessive journey into their distorted vision of hardcore punk. John Toohill’s sonic collective bends the genre at will, folding in surrealistic imagery and injecting psychotropic substance all while never letting the rope go slack. Stare into the cracked mirror of our dystopian future and set loose this wild roller coaster ride into the abyss.”

Speaking of John Toohill, the equally prolific Bran Schlia, who partners with Toohill in the duo Ismatic Guru, has issued a new three-song EP through his label, Steak & Cake Records. The record comes from a project titled ‘Ari and Uzi,’ featuring Ryan Schlia on guitars, Jaz Frazier on vocals, and Bran on bass, organ, drums and backing vocals. Follow Steak & Cake Records HERE to stay on top of all the label’s releases, including ‘Ari and Uzi’ which you can listen to and purchase HERE.

The electronic synth duo, Urge Surfer, has dropped a new two-song EP called “Camp Club.” The record is the byproduct of a summer excursion taken by members Jordan Smith and Chelsea O., who holed up deep in the woods for a handful of days for a writing retreat. The record marks Urge Surfer’s fourth release in a catalogue that includes three EPs and one full length album. You can grab the new EP and check out the band’s music HERE. Read our interview HERE with Jordan Smith, during which she talks a bit about ‘Camp Club’ and the retreat from which it was born.

Be on the watch for new singles by Gatto Black and Hotel Etiquette coming this month. The new songs offer the first taste of an upcoming split EP on which the two bands teamed up on over the summer with engineer/producer John Angelo. The full record is expected in the early part of 2027. Read our interview HERE with Gatto Black’s Sal Mastrocola, during which he talks a bit about the forthcoming split record.

And before we go, make sure you watch the new Autoignition video for the song, ‘Buzzer Beater.’ Check it out below!
